Finding Home Part 1

Finding Home

Hi, and thanks for reading! Let me start by introducing myself! I’m Amber and grew up here in Gig Harbor, WA.  I am a local realtor and my husband is a firefighter. We have an 11-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter and red lab, Lucy.

We have been dreaming of building a home for a very long time! Every time we thought about it, we would find excuses not to. Where would we live while we built, it takes a long time, permits take even longer, it’s not cheap to build, it would just be easier to find a house and fix it up, the list goes on…

We had outgrown our home in just about every way. We were in one of the best neighborhoods (in my opinion) and best locations, close to stores, restaurants, freeway access but tucked away down a dead-end street. It was the best of both worlds. Except we needed more useable room in our house & more space for our toys.

A little over a year ago, we decided to pack up and prep our home to sell! We were given a great opportunity to move temporarily so we could take our time to find the perfect place. Our house quickly sold, so we left the only home our kids had known. (Side note: I’m very grateful that our kids thrive on change, I don’t, at all! It was really hard for me to leave our home). We moved in our temporary living arrangement and started the search to find home!

Well, the home never showed up. We hemmed and hawed over a couple but couldn’t pull the trigger. Months passed and nothing promising came along, we didn’t want to settle, we did before and if this was going to be our forever home, it was worth waiting for. Family friends of ours had property that had been in their family for decades, we figured since we were already renting, why not revisit the dream of building again. The property seemed like a perfect fit, except they had tried to sell it before and it didn’t perk, but we weren’t ready to give up so easily… This is how our journey of building our home, begins!

This is our personal experience of building and we hope to share some helpful tips of things we learned along the way. Everyone’s story is different, this is ours!
